Groveton sees the same rate, with a little extra

GROVETON — The Groveton City Council opted to keep its tax rate the same, but will realize additional funds, nonetheless.

Mayor Ralph Bennett said that the council adopted a property tax rate of 91 cents per $100 valuation at the Sept. 23 meeting; while the rate is the same, the city will see an additional $27,282 based on increased property values from Trinity County Appraisal District.

Additionally, the council approved its 2024-25 budget. Bennett said the council approved an increase to the utility budget for water and sewage, mostly for repairs, and added $50,000 for road and bridge improvements.

In other business, the council:

  • approved providing copies of nuisance ordinances to deputies to begin enforcement throughout the city;
  • approved a payment of $9,245.94 for water and sewer costs to Inframark;
  • granted permission to the Groveton Community Association to put up lights on poles for the Downtown Christmas celebration, and approved closing the Square for the event, set for Dec. 14;
  • approved closing the square for National Night Out on Tuesday;
  • tabled an application for a grant; and
  • approve the use of Cash Management Service, which is new software to allow city to take direct deposits for utility payments. The city secretary will be point of contact for enrollment.
