Lady Jackets take on Warren, Latexo; ‘Jackets fall short of homecoming victory

The Lady Jacket volleyball team hosted Latexo and Warren on Tuesday, Sept. 24 for a double header matchup.

In the first match the Lady Jackets swept the Latexo Lady Tigers in three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-11. Marae Pounds led in kills with 16 and also in aces with 6. 

Lily Read had 14 kills 2 aces, and 10 digs, and 8 service receptions. Lily Payne ended with four kills while Emma Byrd and Lauren Citrano each had 2. Byrd also had 33 assists and 7 digs. Citrano added two aces, a solo block, and 11 digs.Sydney Brock led defensively with 27 digs and 20 service receptions. 

The next match was vs Warren but it took four sets to knock down the Lady Warriors. The Lady Jackets fell short the first set 22-25 but regained control the next three sets taking the win with scores of 25-19, 25-13, and 25-14. Lily Read led in kills with 23, she also had 16 service receptions, 13 digs, and one ace. Marae Pounds had 19 kills, 4 aces, 10 digs, and three service receptions. Lauren Citrano, Emma Byrd, and Ty Cochran each had 2 kills. Byrd also had four aces, 9 digs, and 38 assists. Cochran had 2 solo blocks on the net. Citrano added one ace, 11 digs, and 16 service receptions.

On Friday, Sept. 27 the Lady Jackets hosted their district opener with Goodrich. The Lady Jackets made light work of the Lady Hornets in a sweep with scores of 25-7, 25-6, and 25-8.

This week the Lady Jackets continue district play on the road to Richards on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and then traveling to Leggett on Friday, Oct. 4.

 

‘Jackets take on Oakwood Panthers

The Yellowjacket football team fell to the Oakwood Panthers 34-64 on Friday, Sept. 27.

Jaxon Gay had five carries for 103 yards with one touchdown, and two catches for 26 yards and seven tackles. Jesse Bittick had nine carries with one touchdown, and went 7 for 12 on passes with one touchdown, and 13 tackles. Kasen Citrano had 5 carries for 79 yards with one touchdown, 11 tackles. Turner Johnson caught a 45 yard pass for one touchdown and one tackle. Kevron Green had 1 carry for 27 yards with one touchdown and led tackles with 15. Coltin Kosina and Jayse Gay each had two carries.

Blake Zulpo helped defensively with 10 tackles. Bryson Swanson had 6 tackles. Clay Busey and Russell McDonnold each had one tackle.

At halftime Lily Read was crowned Homecoming Queen with Cutter Lowe as her escort. This week the Jackets have a bye but then will be back in action on Oct. 11, at Aubry Bradley Stadium vs Alpha Omega with a 7 p.m. kickoff time.
