WOODVILLE – The time of year in Tyler County, in which Warren FFA instructor and indefatigable fair sponsor, board member and general go-to guy of all things having to do with the county fair, Jacob Spivey, has called “the most wonderful time of the year,” has arrived.

The Tyler County Fair began on Wednesday and will run throughout this Saturday, Oct. 5. This year, the county’s fair board is showcasing the work of youth from across the county, in the form of livestock animals, ag mechanics projects and so many other endeavors, such as home economics projects and fine arts. Last year, the fair raised more than $346K for the county’s young people.

For Spivey, who has been involved with the fair in various capacities since his youth in Tyler County, the event represents a chance for young people to experience the joys, as well as discomforts, of agricultural life “and hopefully have instilled in them an inborn fondness that they will never be able to deny.”

Along with the live auction sales, the county fairgrounds and rodeo arena will be alive with the smells of food vendors, and there will be plenty of rides to excite even the most adventurous thrill-seekers.

Sam’s Amusements is hosting the rides and games side of the fair, and is featuring rides such as the Swing, the Zipper and the Tilt-a-Whirl. Armbands for all the rides cost $25 for the first two days of the fair, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., while the price is $30 for Friday and Saturday, from 5-10 p.m.

Whether the young people are starting their day before the sun rises, in caring for livestock, or working on their home economics projects, or ag mechanics projects, the fair is a showcase of immense talent throughout our county.

The Tyler County Fair Board encourages everyone to come out and support the youth of the county in their endeavors.
