Fair a celebration of all achievement

COLDSPRING — Tommy Hues called this year’s San Jacinto County Fair great, with amazing participation, great entries, sponsors that show their heart and especially a dedicated, great group of volunteers that step up each year to put the event on.

Hues, the president of the SJC Fair Board, praised each of the events of the fair, from the weather, the student projects, the quality of the animals shown, and even the rodeo.

Also, he said the event is a great one for the county, one that brings supporters, sponsors and students together for the main goal — supporting the youth of San Jacinto County.

Erin Goad relates that this is the inaugural year for a special event — San Jacinto County students participated in the SJC Special Hearts Livestock Show.

This event was the vision and hard work of Shepherd Middle School student Kinsley Rhodes, who brought her dream to life.

The show brought together livestock enthusiasts, sponsors, and community supporters to celebrate inclusivity and curiosity. It provided a special platform for Special Hearts Showmen to interact with and learn about livestock, all while creating a welcoming and supportive environment.

Every school district in San Jacinto County was represented, and it was heartwarming to see Shepherd, Coldspring and Goodrich unite with the shared goal of making each participant feel like a show arena star.

Each participant had the opportunity to bond with livestock, connect with peers, and gain an introduction to agriculture in a fun and rewarding atmosphere. To commemorate their experience, participants received a champion ribbon and show banner.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the students and adults who made this event possible, especially SJC 4-H, Coldspring FFA, Shepherd FFA and Shepherd HS FCCLA.
