One killed in two-vehicle collision

TRINITY — Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers investigated a fatal crash on state Highway 19 at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1893 that occurred Friday.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 6:30 a.m., a Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling south, followed by a Chevrolet pickup. It is reported that the Peterbilt slowed down to make a right turn and was rear-ended by the Chevrolet.

The driver of the truck tractor, 40-year-old Christopher Garcia of Bryan, was not injured.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 77-year-old Freddie Stroman of Crockett, was transported to Huntsville Memorial Hospital by Ventura EMS, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Later on Friday, a two-vehicle accident occurred at Highway 19 South and Stadium Street at about 6:30 p.m.

Fire Chief Keith Johnson said the Trinity Volunteer Fire Department responded and provided traffic control until the vehicles were removed from the scene.

No injuries were reported. The Trinity Police Department is handling the investigation.
