TRINITY — The Trinity ISD Board of Trustees is investigating the need to institute additional Career and Technical Education programs, and heard a presentation from CTE director Misty Coleman and High School Principal Brittaney Cassidy about two schools that recently have added to their offerings.

Superintendent Dr. John Kaufman said that at the Sept. 23 board meeting, the two administrators related their finding after visiting Crockett ISD, which is in its first year, and Livingston ISD, which is in its second year after adding cosmetology and auto mechanics programs.

Kaufman also said that the district polled its students from sixth through 12th grades about participating in those classes, and of the 311 responses, 186 students, or 60.2 percent, said yes to a cosmetology program, and 179, or 59.9 percent, said yes to auto mechanics.

“We’re pursuing it, looking at what we need to do to get this done,” Kaufman said.

In other business, the trustees:

  • approved hiring a full-time LVN for the junior high and high schools, as the current provider is also a teacher and is missing too much classroom time. Kaufman said the district is now seeking qualified applicants; and
  • divided 700-plus votes between candidates for the Trinity County Appraisal District board, and 28 votes for the candidates for the Walker County Appraisal District.
