Countdown continues to library grand opening

Posted

Hello everyone: This is your librarian, and I have great news. We are close to re-opening. We don’t have an exact target date but as soon as I know the date you will get that information.

We finally have the goal in sight. Your librarian has been working diligently to get your library open and available for service. The building has been purchased, the shelves have been installed and the books will be transferred from storage in the next week. The Sheriff’s Office has been so gracious to lend us their workers to help with moving shelves, furniture and books. Your librarian absolutely could not have made this move without them. When you see them, please thank them for the help.

The Trinity County Commissioner’s Court voted to give the library $ 2,000 and your librarian was so humbled to receive their vote of confidence for our library. Please thank the Trinity County Judge and the Commissioners when you see them.

We only have 3 obstacles to overcome, and our City Council is working towards that goal. Our obstacles are modifications to the existing restroom, adding handicap ramps and getting a new sign. If there is any person or group who could help with this, please contact your librarian or City Council members.

On Monday we will start putting the books in order on the shelves. There will be many small chores that your librarian will need help to complete. There have been so many interested people in the past few months. If you are still interested in donating your time to help with these chores, contact your librarian at (936) 642-2483 between 1 and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no answering machine so please call back if you get no answer because that will mean that I did not hear the phone.

As soon as the library officially opens there will be plans to start a reading program for children on the Fridays that school is out. Your librarian wants to have many programs to offer, and we will start with our Children’s Reading Program. Your librarian really missed our children and can’t wait to see everyone again.

We are still collecting pennies, and they will be used to buy supplies and materials for the future children’s programs. So please save your pennies and I will gladly accept them for our children.

Our new location will be 125 W. First Street.

Our mailing address will be P.O. Box 399.

Our phone number is (936) 642-2483.
